Aalto University Laboratory of Organic Chemistry presents:
Combinations of Catalytic and Kinetic Tools for Small Molecule Synthesis
Professor Reko Leino
Synthesis Technology Research Group, Department of Chemistry
Åbo Akademi University, Åbo, Finland
Venue: Lecture room C330b
Our main present research interests are in sustainable chemical synthesis technology and catalysis, ranging from synthetic and mechanistic organic and organometallic chemistry to polymer synthesis, carbohydrate chemistry and glycobiology. Currently, a shift is taking place in chemical synthesis technology with unprecedented opportunities to combine organic synthesis, biocatalytic methods, as well as homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis, mediated by both metals and organocatalysts, into more efficient and compact one-pot and cascade-type operations for rapid and selective generation of building blocks and new materials.
Together with several collaborators, our recent work in stereoselective synthesis and catalysis has involved chirally modified heterogeneous catalysts for hydrogenation of diketones, enantio- and diastereoselective one-pot and tandem-type transformations for small molecule synthesis, as well as chemo-enzymatic synthesis and dynamic kinetic resolutions of secondary alcohols and amines. In these studies, both homogeneous and heterogeneous, as well as both organocatalysts and transition metal catalysts and main group metal mediated reactions and enzymes have been investigated.
